Gumaro Rivera, owner of Pumas Concrete, reviewing a concrete project in Nashville TN

PSIP PROTOCOL™ CERTIFIED · NASHVILLE, TN

California Craftsmanship. Brought to Tennessee.

Pumas Concrete was built on one simple principle: if you're going to pour concrete, do it right the first time. Twenty years of California experience says the Tennessee standard isn't good enough.

Our Story

A California Craftsman in Tennessee

Gumaro Rivera arrived in California in 2006 with a trade background and a dissatisfaction with the concrete he'd seen built to fail. For two years, he trained under the originator of California Sand Finish, the hand-applied, aggregate-exposing technique that defined the driveways and pool decks of Malibu, Beverly Hills, and Bel Air. He didn't just learn the finish. He learned the structural philosophy behind it: that decorative concrete placed on a weak foundation is expensive landscaping, not construction.

When Gumaro Rivera brought Pumas Concrete to Nashville, he made a deliberate choice not to adapt down to the local standard. Tennessee's residential concrete market had settled into a predictable failure cycle: 3000 PSI mix, wire mesh placed flat at grade, no engineered base preparation, no documentation. Driveways were cracking within five years. Homeowners were replacing surfaces they'd been told would last a lifetime. Gumaro chose to build Pumas Concrete around PSIP, the Performance Structural Integrity Protocol, a formal, documented standard that directly answers that failure cycle.

Today, Pumas Concrete operates with a crew of 30, scalable to 50+ for large commercial projects, and maintains the only Structural Longevity Certificate program in Middle Tennessee. Every project is documented: mix spec, PSI rating, reinforcement method, base preparation, finishing technique. That documentation transfers at property resale, because concrete that's built to last should be able to prove it.
