Every Concrete Patio Project Includes
Grade & Drainage First
Every patio design begins with a grade analysis to ensure water moves away from your foundation and off the surface efficiently. Poor drainage destroys slabs from below and creates ice hazards in winter.
California Finish Options
California Sand Finish, exposed aggregate, integral color, stained concrete, and broom finish, all available on an engineered structural base. We recommend finish based on your architecture, sun exposure, and use patterns.
Control Joint Engineering
Control joints aren't just cut wherever convenient, they're laid out to manage where the slab cracks as it cures and moves, keeping visible cracking within designed joints rather than random fractures across the surface.

How We Deliver Concrete Patios & Outdoor Living
Design Consultation
We evaluate your outdoor space, grade, drainage, sun exposure, adjacency to pool or structure, and discuss how you use the space before making any finish or size recommendation.
Drainage & Grade Engineering
Grade is designed to direct water away from your home and off the slab efficiently. Any drainage infrastructure required is specified at this stage.
Base & Structural Pour
Sub-base preparation, rebar grid on chair rails, fiber mesh, and high-strength mix pump-poured concrete, the same structural standard as every Pumas Concrete project.
Finish Application
Your selected finish is applied at the correct cure stage by trained crew members. California Sand Finish, exposed aggregate, color, or broom, to the full our standard surface specification.
Walkthrough & Handover
We walk the finished surface with you, confirm it matches what we agreed, and hand over the record of the mix, reinforcement and base work that went into it.
Discuss Your Project
A Patio Is a Drainage Problem Before It Is a Design Problem
A patio that ponds after rain, lifts after the first hard freeze or cracks across the middle in year three did not get unlucky. It got poured before anyone worked out where the water goes.
We work in that order, and most quotes do not.
Where the water goes, decided first
Every design starts with grade: water off the surface, away from the foundation, to somewhere it can leave. Slope is a structural decision, not a cosmetic one.
Joints placed on purpose
Concrete moves, and control joints decide where that shows. We lay the pattern out before forming so movement lands in lines you chose.
Finish over structure, never instead of it
Sand finish, exposed aggregate, colour, stain and broom all go over an excavated, compacted, rebar-reinforced slab. A decorative surface on a weak slab is expensive landscaping.
Pool Decks
A pool deck takes more abuse than any other concrete on a property: constant water, chemicals, direct sun, freeze-thaw and bare feet.
A finish that works wet
The California Sand Finish holds a fine, consistent texture that stays grippy without the coarse ridges that trap dirt and algae. It is what we recommend here.
Drainage in three dimensions
Water has to leave the deck, the coping and the equipment pad without collecting on the way. Drains and swales are designed in, not left to chance.
A flexible joint at the coping
A pool shell moves with water level and temperature. Lock the deck to it rigidly and that movement cracks the deck along the coping line.
Outdoor Kitchens, Fire Pits and Front Entries
Kitchen pads
A grill frame, appliances and a stone countertop are concentrated point loads. Standard patio concrete is not specified for them, so we thicken and reinforce.
Fire pit surrounds
Standard acrylic sealers soften under sustained radiant heat. We match sealer to fuel type and setback distance.
Entry slabs
Where an entry meets the foundation it needs an isolation joint. Locked together, foundation settlement shows up as a crack at the most visible point on the property.
Patios Across Antioch and Southeast Nashville
Clay through the Mill Creek basin swells wet and shrinks dry, which is why patios here fail at the joints and along the house rather than in the middle. Newer builds in Cane Ridge, Nolensville and Mt. Juliet add settling development fill underneath.
If you are building the backyard in stages, tell us now. One drainage plan and one set of elevations across the whole footprint is the difference between pieces that meet and pieces that pond.
What Happens When You Call
We walk the space with you: grade, drainage, how the sun moves across it and how you will actually use it. Then a written price with the finish and the schedule in it.

Concrete Patios & Outdoor Living. Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about concrete patios & outdoor living in Nashville, TN.
California Sand Finish and exposed aggregate both perform excellently in Middle Tennessee's freeze-thaw climate when applied over an engineered structural base. Smooth-troweled finishes are more vulnerable to surface spalling in freeze-thaw cycles. We recommend finish based on your specific site, sun exposure, and aesthetic priorities after the site evaluation.
Yes. We design patios to integrate with adjacent hardscape elements, including pool surrounds, outdoor kitchens, and fire pit areas. The critical element is ensuring consistent drainage planning and that structural joints between elements are engineered, not left to chance.
The concrete-to-foundation joint is one of the most important, and most overlooked, details in patio installation. We engineer an isolation joint at the foundation line to allow independent movement between the slab and the structure. Without this, foundation movement telegraphs directly into the slab and causes cracking.
We recommend light foot traffic after 24-48 hours and full use after 28 days, which is the standard cure period for concrete to reach design strength. We do not recommend placing heavy furniture or any vehicle on the surface before the 28-day mark.
The primary causes are: insufficient control joints allowing the slab to crack uncontrolled during curing, absence of isolation joints allowing foundation movement to transfer into the slab, poor drainage allowing water to penetrate and freeze below the surface, and underspec concrete, typically 3000 PSI, that lacks the compressive strength to resist Tennessee's freeze-thaw cycle.
engineered concrete outperforms pavers in structural longevity and requires far less maintenance over time. Pavers shift, settle, and develop drainage problems as the base erodes. A properly installed concrete patio on a our standard base is a monolithic, stable surface for the life of the property.
