Overview
A full house foundation package on Watsonwood Drive in Nashville, taken from open ground through footings, block stem walls and finished slab. Because a foundation disappears the moment the framing goes up, the build was documented throughout, including drone passes over the completed structure.
The Challenge
This is the one part of a build that cannot be redone. Everything above it depends on the footing staying where it was placed, and on Davidson County clay that means getting down to undisturbed bearing soil rather than to a convenient depth. The work also ran through winter, when ground conditions and pour scheduling get harder, and the framing crew was waiting on the foundation, so the schedule had no slack in it.
How We Built It
Footing trenches were excavated to bearing depth and reinforced continuously through the corners, where foundations fail first. Footings were placed and allowed to cure before block stem walls went up course by course, with the exterior waterproofed before backfill. The slab was poured with a boom truck to reach across the footprint without dragging concrete, then screeded and finished flat. Mix, placement and reinforcement were documented as the work happened, so there is a record of what went into the ground.
The Result
A square, level foundation handed over on schedule with the framing crew able to start immediately, and a documented record of the footings, reinforcement and slab that will still exist long after everything is buried.
