Overview
Site concrete for the Home2 Suites by Hilton in Dickson, Tennessee. The scope covered the exterior flatwork that surrounds a hotel: sidewalks, curbs, entry approaches and the accessible routes connecting parking to the building, all built to commercial specification and phased around an active construction schedule.
The Challenge
Commercial hotel work carries constraints residential does not. Every exterior route has to meet ADA cross-slope and running-slope limits, and those are design decisions made before forming, because correcting them afterwards means demolition. Dickson County reviews and inspects separately from Metro Nashville, and the site was live throughout, with other trades working around us and a hotel opening date that was not going to move.
How We Built It
Routes and slopes were set out and checked against the drawings before forms went in, so the accessible paths were built compliant rather than tested afterwards. Sidewalks and curbs were formed and reinforced to commercial specification, with joint layout planned around pedestrian traffic and building entries rather than dropped on a grid. Pours were phased so access to the building stayed open for other trades, and finishing was worked to a consistent surface that stays slip-resistant when wet.
The Result
Compliant, durable exterior concrete delivered in phases without holding up the wider build, and a set of walkways and curbs specified for the foot traffic a hotel actually generates rather than to a residential standard.
