Overview
A combined driveway and covered patio in Middle Tennessee, poured as one coordinated package at a stone-front home so both surfaces share the same color and the same broom finish. The driveway runs from the street to the house, and the patio sits under a newly framed covered porch structure at the rear.
The Challenge
Two surfaces poured at different times almost never match. Color varies batch to batch, the finish drifts with the weather on the day, and the join between them ends up obvious. The patio also had to be placed under a covered structure that was already framed, which meant working around posts with restricted access for the truck, and the driveway needed to be excavated and regraded from the street edge inward.
How We Built It
Both surfaces were scoped and scheduled as one job so the mix, the color and the finishing crew stayed the same across them. A skid steer handled excavation and grading from the street through to the rear, forms were set for both areas, and reinforcement was placed before any concrete arrived. Under the covered porch the pour was chuted in and worked by hand around the posts, then broom-finished in the same direction and at the same stage of cure as the driveway.
The Result
A driveway and patio that read as one continuous piece of work rather than two separate projects, with matching color and a consistent broom texture that stays grippy underfoot and in the rain.
